The MPX database (MPX) should be backed up nightly at the very least. As it is not a transactional type database with thousands of transactions per day, the nightly backup should suffice. The best mode of backup is a full backup. At most, one day of data would be lost which is not excessive to re-enter if required. The Reporting Services database exists on the same SQL Server but is not critical as it can be rebuilt. All the report RDL files are available from Peopletray on request.
The application server that hosts the MPX application can be rebuilt and the files restored from a backup or requested from Peopletray. If the database or application servers change names or instances, Peopletray must be informed so a new build of MPX can be provided.
Basic tasks to recovery after a failure:
- Configure hardware (if there was a hardware failure)
- Install SQL Server, Reporting Services, IIS
- Notify Peopletray of hardware server name changes, if any
- Peopletray will provide all application and reporting services rdl files
- Restore last SQL MPX database backup
- Ensure clients can connect to MPX database on recovery
